History:
Elena Byron fought for most of her life. To eat, to work, to survive. A rare streetwalker who beat the odds and joined the ranks of the call-girls for the rich and famous. A man does not often fall in love with the prostitute with whom he was cheating on his wife, but here, it happened. Alejandro Torrez, a good man, who defended bad men, and good ones, when he could. A defense attorney who tried to embody the best of his profession. But, like all men, he was falliable. Having married young to a woman with whom he thought he wanted to spend his life, Mr. Torrez found that the thought of another day with her was an eternal torment.
After a messy divorce, Alejandro married quickly and soon afterwards, Elena became pregnant. Nathan was born with little drama, and much celebration, and grew up in whatever lap of luxury was left after the divorce. Still, his parents made sure that he knew his good fortune. Nate grew up going to public schools, making what his father's business acquaintences would consider all the wrong kinds of friends. His teachers consistently noted that Nate displayed a charm that tended to get him both into and out of trouble with almost shocking ease. From conning his way out of homework to charming his way into his male classmates' pants, Nate had a budding talent for getting people to do what he wanted. In high school, Nate discovered mock trial, which harnessed both his natural charm, and argumentative drive. He excelled there, and managed to win himself a sizable scholarship upon graduation, not that he really needed it. He attended college on the east coast for a semester, then headed back to California for the summer.
One night, that summer, Nate was out clubbing with some high school friends, when he taken home by a dashing stranger. The next thing he remembers is digging himself out of a grave in the man's yard, and running as fast as he could. Nate understood what had happened to him, hid in the nearest sun-proof place he could find, the sewers. The next night, he snuck into a empty library and used a computer to try and find some help, when he stumbled across the blog of one Babyvamp Jessica, from Bon Temps, Louisiana. In his state, with no one to remind him that he wasn't thinking clearly, Nate set out for Bon Temps, hoping to find some companionship and guidance. He's just arrived.
Personality:
Nate is a young man who's life has been derailed, among other things. Though he understands the basic restrictions of being a vampire (no going out in the sun, no wearing silver, etc.), but he's still liable to step on the toes of his elders. His natural human charm has remained and evolved into an exceptional talent for glamouring folks. But his old tendency to con what he needs from people has reasserted itself, so he's not always the most trustworthy of people. But he's a fish out of water, and he knows it, so Nate's liable to latch on to any older vampire who'll help him (or says that they will).

Nate was entirely displeased as he made his way into the Queen's "sunroom". The mindless drones that passed for her guards had questioned him for nearly half an hour before accepting his claim that he was seeking sanctuary. They'd had him show his fangs and touch a silver chain to prove that he was, indeed a vampire. He'd almost expected them to stake him, just to be completely sure. But eventually, his persistence had payed off, and now he found the woman he'd sought to talk to playing Yahtzee. It was just ridiculous.
Concealing his irritation, Nate stood as calmly as he could in the doorway, feeling that he should wait for an invitation to move further. The male human who was playing to his mistress's whim caught Nate's eye, and for a moment, he couldn't help staring. Still, this was no time for fantasizing, no matter how vapid this woman was intent on being. At least the decorations were tasteful, unlike that bar in Shreveport, where he'd gone looking for the sherriff, and been thoroughly mistreated by that vampire's progeny. Something about most vampire's seeking to over-mystify themselves to outsiders drove Nate up the wall. This one, at least, had a sense of fun, overindulged though it was.
"Your Majesty," Nate began, "There's a pressing matter which I'd like to discuss with you." Not that he expected that to particularly get her attention. But he needed to find out if his Maker was looking for him, and more importantly, who that Maker was.
